In the Eastern Alps and on the threshold of the Mediterranean, contacts between the Romance, the Slavic, and the Germanic-speaking population with various cultural traditions came about in the Middle A ges. Initial confrontations were followed by integration and acculturation processes which resulted in the formation ofa specific multilingual cultural landscape. The treatise deals with individual cases of integration, acculturation and accommodation in the relevant space and time.
