Abstract

An average nuclear family in Kranj had 3 to 4 members and less than 2 children. On an average, the households in Kranj counted 4 to 5 members, whereas the ones of higher social classes were more numerous (over 6 members). They had more children, besides there were also aiders, apprentices and domestic servants in such families. The latter were pretty integrated into the strange families resp. households. Among the types of relationships the nuclear family markedly predominated, whereas the proportion of enlarged families was rather small. Children went on their own at about 15. Men in Kranj had their own family when they were about 25—30 years old, whereas women a little earlier.
